Here's the deal. I am willing to sim the rest of this season, but after that either we need to find a new commish or call it quits for the league. If someone else were to take over I'd stay on as a GM but I've been looking to pass off commish duties for a while now. We talked before about handing different responsibilities to different people and while that sounded good, it'd never work.
I guess most people would want the league to continue and if I were you I would too. It's something fun to check every day without having to put much into it but all the work the commish has to do (plus Jon Milley with the ratings) is pretty time consuming. Moscow quit near the end of last season so I took care of their offseason transactions. I've had to do that for other teams a number of times. Only one team ever sends in lines. You can't do anything new with the sim program and it has become a bit stale. Most of the talent is concentrated on a few teams but I don't really think that's a huge problem regarding the competitiveness of the league (five different champs in five years). Where it is an issue is the lack of player movement. We tried expansion but that was a flop.
Anyway, I just want some opinions on whether it is worth all the time necessary to continue on after this season... and obviously I'm putting this out there to see if anyone will step up and take over.

Winnipeg quit today. So we're down to 14 GMs and that includes Bratislava who has been absent for quite a while.

As a commish of two leagues, I can agree that there is a good deal of work involved in running a league. I find that the best way to relieve the stress on the commish from doing so much is to outsource various jobs for cash added to current funds. This is what I do in my leagues and while, yes, I have had deadbeat GMs I've had to turf, I also have a solid core of active GMs in both of my leagues whom I can count on, not only to help out, but also to write articles for the league newsletter, solicited and non-solicited (for said cash). Now cash for work only works if there is stuff to spend the cash on. In my leagues we use signing bonuses when bidding on UFAs (no more than 30% of the total contract). As we use Total contract Value (TCV) when discerning the winning bid (Salary x Years + Signing Bonus), money is definitely a factor here. We also allow the re-negotiation of a contract downwards up to 25% as part of a trade. No player can have this happen to therm more than once a season. Again, the money for this comes out of current funds. I've also heard of leagues that allow a GM to pay for 'improved medical treatment' thus bringing back players from the IR sooner. Once again, current funds.
Just a suggestion.

Doesn't what you suggest add a heck of a lot more work though?
Bratislava is done now too, so that leaves us with 13 GMs. I'm starting to think maybe we just sim out the rest of the season and playoffs twice a day and call it.

In that case, anybody interested in Tavares, Hedman and Duchene for a half decent #4 d-man?

More work maybe, but the key here is to outsource and thereby provide more opportunities for other GMs to make money and therefore improve their teams

In all seriousness, I'm fine with just finishing off the season nice and quick and folding it up. With the serious lack of trades and GMs coming and going for the same teams time after time, the league is just not what it used to be. Most of us that have been around for a long time just have different priorities or a lack of time now.

Fair enough. I might as well resign now then. No offense intended to anyone, but if the league is going to fold anyway 'working the phones' to improve my team kind of seems pointless. Not trying to stomp on a dead body here but there are a few of you that I have contacted regarding openings in my leagues. I urge you to get in touch with me as the league's are well run and here for the long haul. You can contact me via e-mail or MSN: someoneelse@sympatico.ca or via Skype: Hockey_Hippie Darren, Nathan et al: Thanks for the great times. It was fun while it lasted man. Good luck in your future endeavours, whatever they may be.

No problem guys, it was a lot of fun.
We had a bunch of really good guys and GMs that stuck with us for a long time and I just want to say thanks. All the best to everyone in the future.

If this league is going to go out, it may as well go out the right way, with the Habs winning the title, as 90% of you would love to see happen. If not, then you aren't true Habs fans!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the league, particularly you guys who stuck around for a long time. It definitely was a lot of work, but a lot of fun too. Now let's finish it off with some five per days and see who takes the last Cup.
